MAJOR DRILLING OPERATOR

A major global drilling operator had a number of outdated specifications following a series of mergers and acquisitions and required a new set of standards to be working to for both maintenance and new build of their offshore fleet.

The concept was to include all the latest standards, codes of practice and technologies to establish a more environmentally friendly, sustainable system which would improve the coating life.

Three paint manufacturers were selected who could provide a global supply and technical service support.

The scope was broad but detailed improvements in efficiency, complexity and environmental aspects;

  • Review and update using the latest International Standards.

  • Detailed definition of the areas and tabulated specification for each area of the Rigs.

  • Detailed generic specification for each area of the Rig with appropriate classification testing for each system adopted, where appropriate.

  • The addition of appropriate, tested and proven new technology to improve efficiency.

  • Ease complexity of the specification process by utilising common products wherever possible.

  • The generic specification can be adapted to be product specific using global manufacturers products.

  • The coating systems must be available globally to ensure consistency in the products used.

  • The coating systems must be environmentally and operator friendly wherever possible.

  • Coating systems must be adopted that are easy to use in an offshore environment.
